German Beer in Madison: Weihenstephaner

Beer Feature: Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel

If you want to try German beer in Madison, Bierock is the place to sample some of the world’s best brews.

As alluded to in the “Beer Feature” video above, we’re currently serving Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel.

One of our newly tapped kegs, it checks in at a sessionable 5.3% ABV.

Hefeweizens are one of the most popular beer styles sold at Bierock. But when the weather turns a little bit colder, customers are looking for darker beer.

Dunkel in German translates to dark. That dark color comes from the roasted malts they use in the brewing process.

While the flavor still has same banana and clove notes you come to expect in a hefeweizen, the roasted malt gives also gives it a little caramel flavor. Essentially, a slightly richer version of the same beer.

The beer pours in a pint glass with a generous frothy head.

Due to its popularity, we just tapped a second keg. But make sure to come soon before it’s gone. Hefeweissbier Dunkel is just one great German beer in Madison that can be discovered.

Bierock has 24 tap lines, which constantly rotate. While beers may return months down the road, it’s rare when we tap the same beer consecutively.

Customers are sure to find some item on our food menu that pairs with every beer. Whether it’s the German-influenced bierocks or burgers, our version of comfort food complements craft beer rather nicely.

Bierock is located at 2911 N. Sherman Ave., part of the Northside Town Center.
