About Us

So WTF is a bierock?

Many cultures have a savory pastry. In Latin America, they have the empanada. In Italy, they have the calzone. In Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula, they have the pasty.

Meanwhile, in the Plain States such as Kansas and Oklahoma, they have the bierock. In Nebraska, they’re known as runzas. Whatever they’re called, they’re a mouth-watering pastry traditionally filled with beef, cabbage, onions and seasoning. In other words, they’re the perfect drinking food. Bierocks were brought to America from Volga German immigrants from which, Amanda—our owner—can claim her heritage.

At Bierock Madison, we serve the traditional form but also offer modern interpretations inspired from other cultures as well. Located near the airport on Sherman Ave. inside the Northside TownCenter in Madison, Wis., Bierock is your source for comfort food and craft beer. Happy Hour weekdays, Tuesday through Friday.
