Make Music Madison 2023 at Bierock

Make Music Madison will take place at Bierock on Wednesday June 21 with four artists performing throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

An annual tradition in the city, Make Music Madison takes place outdoors on the summer solstice. It’s part of international Make Music Day, which takes place in over 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

In the past, over 1,000 musicians have taken part in more than 380 shows at more than 100 venues in Madison alone.

The performance schedule outside Bierock is as follows…

  • 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Hogback—Indie Rock, Americana, Funk
  • 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Blame It On Cain—Indie Rock, Pop, Americana
  • 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Drive-a-tron—Indie Pop, Rock
  • 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Still Jaded After All These Years—Folk, Pop, Rock

Formed in a scary, musty basement on Madison’s east side, Hogback is a four piece band that spans many genres and styles of playing. Hogback can make you boogie and burst into tears within a single song.

Veteran rockers Blame It On Cain recently returned with their fourth LP, “Implied Maturity,” and there’s a purity about it that is hard to replicate. … sturdy acoustic guitars and an honest vocal performance, these nine songs have almost an americana feel to them. It’s certainly a summertime record, with plenty of bright tones reminding you of the warmer days where life moves just a little slower to soak everything in. Being the band’s first record in three years, it’s apparent that there’s some care put into this particular songwriting

Drive-a-tron is an indie-pop/rock band mixing together heavy grooves, unexpected harmonies, and poetic lyrics as main ingredients and has been compared to the music of LCD Soundsystem, Ratatat, and Beck. Lightweight and easy to pack, Drive-a-tron is typically run by one person (Paul Vash—Madison, WI) who writes the songs, plays the instruments, makes the videos, and changes the oil. Dancing, sweating, and joy are the goals of Drive-a-tron, but a closer look at the song lyrics may surprise you with stories of complex characters and situations.

Still Jaded After All These Years features guitar, keyboards, saxophone, vocals, percussion, and the occasional cello and trombone. They do covers of pop, rock, jazz, country, and folk tunes from all eras but admittedly heavy on the 60s and 70s stuff.

Bierock will have its full food and drink menu available the day of the event.

There is no cover charge but tipping the musicians is encouraged.

Located at 2911 N. Sherman Ave., Bierock is part of the Northside TownCenter and across the street from Warner Park.
